Compressed air at Maintec 2010
December 01st 2009

BCAS has strengthened ties with easyFairs MAINTEC 2010 ahead of next year’s event at the NEC in Birmingham, 2-4 March which will see the Society play a much more active role. For the first time too BCAS will host its 80th anniversary Spring Conference at easyFairs MAINTEC.

Chris Dee, Executive Director at BCAS, says, “Although we get approached by many events, easyFairs MAINTEC is one of the few exhibitions we support regularly.  It always reaches great quality attendees and provides a real opportunity for us to show businesses how they can get the most out of their compressed air systems.  So when we were looking to do something more, as part of our 80th anniversary year, MAINTEC seemed the perfect platform.”

A key problem area BCAS will be addressing head on at MAINTEC 2010 is leakages. The Society will stage a Leak Detection Challenge, where a small compressed air system will be deliberately created with leaks – some which you can hear and some you can’t.  Then visitors will be shown how easily these can be detected using a mix of detection solutions.  Companies will also be able to describe their own system to BCAS’ experts who will provide an on the spot estimate of what leakages are likely to be currently costing them.

Chris Dee again: “With liquids a leakage is very obvious, but with compressed air things are harder to spot.  A company’s production line can unwittingly suffer from leakages and still work.  However, it won’t be working at its optimum, there will be disruption due to pressure supply fluctuations and electricity bills will be far higher than they should be – resulting in tens of thousands of pounds in wasted revenue.  We’re using the challenge to flag up these often hidden costs and to show businesses how easy they are to remedy.”

BCAS will also run Compress Air Advice Clinics at the show – one to one sessions for visitors with any compressed air queries – and will run a dedicated programme of learnShops.

BCAS to host 80th Annual Spring Conference during easyFairs MAINTEC 2nd March

The conference will be held in the Summit theatre located at the back of the hall.

Conference will be a half day event with the programme commencing at about 9.30am and finishing at 12.30pm.

The conference programme will consist of approximately five speaker sessions.  Speakers to be recruited by BCAS but could include organisations such as Carbon Trust, BT and RoSPA.
