Systems designed to recover energy November 11th 2008 More than ever, businesses and the general public want the same thing – energy that is cost efficient, reliable and environmentally safe. Through its businesses, diversified industrial company Ingersoll Rand develops energy management and generation products and services that make it possible to achieve these goals.
One of these products is its Energy Recovery System. Air Cooled rotary screw compressors are a source for recovery of heat.
The heat of compression is transferred into the compressor coolant during the compression cycle. In a standard air-cooled machine, this heat is transferred to the cooling air and discharged from the package. By exchanging the heat of compression in a water/coolant heat exchanger, the heat of compression can be re-used for other processes.
The Energy Recovery System is modulated with a simple temperature bypass valve. The heated water can be used for industrial applications such as pre-feed to boilers or industrial cleaning processes, or domestic applications like central heating, showers, and sinks.
Benefits claimed for Ingersoll- Rand's ERS include superior heat transfer, closer approach temperature, no additional energy losses from the compressor, and maximum energy recovery. The simple design is said to ensure minimal wear and tear and minimal maintenance costs. More articles from Ingersoll Rand UK Ltd: |
