John Guest makes pipe installation easy
July 01st 2008

The John Guest Push Fit Compressed Air System provides installers of pipe work with an easy and efficient solution that is especially suited to the modern demands of increased energy efficiency.

The system consists of fittings manufactured in a highly durable engineering grade plastic and pipe supplied in either aluminium or rigid nylon. As the pipe comes pre colour coded blue, there is no need to paint.

Making a connection could not be any easier. Simply cut the pipe to the length required, insert into the fitting and push. Stainless steel teeth, on the collet inside the fitting, grip and hold the pipe in place while an o-ring provides the 100% leak proof seal. Perfect connection has been made.

It is also easy to disconnect. By pressing the collet down, the grip of the teeth on the pipe is released, allowing the pipe to be removed. The fitting can then be used again without the need for replacement parts. This can be especially useful when making alterations to pipe work.

Fittings and pipe are lightweight, making installing overhead or in tight awkward locations simple.

Compared to other products, the action is so refreshingly easy, one installer, Denver Hall, commented, “It was all so easy, I though I must be doing something wrong!” Making connections using galvanised pipe can be extremely time consuming, whereas users of the John Guest System frequently report time savings of at least 50%. A John Guest System can be up and running in hours rather than days, saving thousands of pounds and causing minimum disruption to production. One Factory Manager even managed to carry out work on a system during lunch breaks.

A range of brass adaptors is available to allow an existing compressed air system to be extended using the John Guest products.

The adaptors are available with both male and female BSPT Threads as well as an alternative NPT Thread. These can then be connected to the existing galvanised pipe work, from there John Guest fittings can be employed.

The efficiency of a compressed air system is also greatly improved. The smooth inner bore of both fittings and pipe provide very little resistance to the air travelling through the pipe work. This significant advantage, along with low pressure drop within fittings, mean that John Guest 28mm, 22mm and 15mm pipe sizes, offer similar flow characteristics to 11/2”, 1” and 3/4” galvanised.

Unique to the range offered is the Water Trap Tee, an innovative product that solves the on going problem of moisture in a compressed air system, offering an easy alternative to the need to install “Swan Necks”. The ingenious internal arrangement of the fitting allows air to flow, with minimum headloss, from the main to a take off point without allowing water to follow. The moisture is retained in the line to be drawn off at some suitable location.

A connection made with John Guest fittings is 100% leak proof 100% of the time.

A common problem with galv pipe work is that even if it installed to the highest standard, it will corrode as time goes by. As John Guest products will not corrode, maintenance costs are considerably reduced.

The John Guest System will solve many of the problems that are associated with pipe work. As a result the system is steadily growing in popularity as installers and users experience and learn for themselves the many advantages that are to be enjoyed.
