Sauer goes “Supersonic”
July 01st 2008

J.P. Sauer continues to increase its market share of supplying quality high pressure equipment into the industrial sector. The Department of Engineering at Cambridge University has just completed a modernisation of their aero laboratory which includes the installation of two Sauer WP271L air cooled units to charge their supersonic wind tunnel. The machines supply dry air at -40°C dew point at 44 barg pressure within the heart of the existing complex. Cambridge is at the forefront of this technology testing components at air speeds up to Mach 3.5 for the study of aerodynamics on complex surfaces. Their clients include Airbus, Westland, Rolls Royce and the US Air Force.

Sauer is also forging ahead in their quest for air movement with yet another product introduction with the Sauer WP6000. This new innovative Compressor / Booster takes the Company to another level in compression technology with its multi-cylinder combinations.

Each industrial application makes its very own specific demands and the new WP6000 is an innovative totally flexible design optimized to the customers’ exact specification. With the ability to fit a variety of up to sixcylinders, the compressor, or gas booster, can handle much larger volumes to extend the existing Sauer range to deliver air, or gases, at any pressure from 10 to 400 bar with flowrates anywhere from 250 to 2000m3/hr.

Additionally, with the sealed ‘leak-tight’ pressurized crankcase, the WP6000 can safely compress hazardous, or expensive gases, with a suction pressure anywhere from 0 to 20 bar.

Water-cooled compressors of this size remain the ‘workhorse’ for industry and cooling the WP6000 can be done using fresh or sea water, with power supplied from either an electric motor or diesel engine in the range of 90 to 230 kW.

While the new WP6000 is an innovative watercooled concept; the wearing parts have been selected from Sauer ‘standard’ components to ensure proven performance, reliability and excellent quality that our customer’s expect.
