Reduce your compressed air costs
July 01st 2005

Compressed air, as a clean and powerful source of energy, is ubiquitous in manufacturing today, but as with all utilities, it is prudent to use it with maximum efficiency.

Used in huge volumes, compressed air is essential to many processes. However, wasted energy is one of the great unseen costs in industry today and energy saving technology can pay for itself within a matter of weeks or even days. Many compressed air users are not aware of how economic and easy to install energy saving measures can be.

Meech Air Technology has been working with industry on novel applications that will help companies manage the use of its compressed air both in terms of making it more energy efficient but also quieter and more ‘comfortable’ for their workforce to use.

ENERGY EFFICIENT NOZZLES AND BLOWGUNS Air Saver nozzles from Meech Air Technology incorporate external and internal profiles to produce a Coanda effect that entrains surrounding air and can multiply airflow by as much as 25 times compared to the airflow obtained from an open pipe. This results in a two-fold benefit, the amount of compressed air required is reduced for the same output and noise levels are significantly reduced.

Meech’s Air Saver high-thrust jets are ideal for applications such as parts ejection, drying or chip removal because they produce maximum force in relation to air consumption and provide high thrust at distances up to 300mm.

To further reduce compressed air usage and lower noise levels within the factory environment, Meech has also introduced the Energy Saver Safety Blowgun. For any typical blowgun task, including swarf removal, this innovative design can save up to 70% of compressed air usage and gives a 16% noise reduction.

NO COMPRESSED AIR? Meech Air Technology has used its extensive expertise in the compressed air market to develop one system that eliminates the traditional use of compressed air altogether.

Jet Stream, a fan driven system that produces greater air volumes and pressures than compressed air knives with dramatic running cost savings.

The Meech “Jet Stream” fan driven air knife system provides the ultimate solution for cost effective product drying, swarf removal or cooling. Additional benefits of the Jet Stream system include its low noise levels that provide operator comfort and the limit of moving parts, ensuring low maintenance requirement. However, the greatest benefit of all is the cost saving resulting from the ability to use fan-driven air in place of costly compressed air in a wide range of industrial applications.

The Jet Stream is powered by a high pressure fan unit that delivers high pressure air, generated by a fan unit, which is then delivered to the unique “tear drop” manifold and discharged to the target.

The innovative “tear drop” manifold, the result of significant R&D effort, provides two major benefits.

Firstly, air exits the manifold in a consistent, laminar flow pattern that minimises turbulence, and secondly, the entrainment of potentially “dirty” ambient air is minimised.

Consequently a laminar blade of clean air is directed through a preset slot in the manifold accurately on to the target.
